Attendance barcode labels help students check in quickly using a barcode scanner. In Spark, barcode labels can be printed for either memberships or contacts, depending on how attendance should be tracked.

Spark barcode labels are formatted for Avery 5160 labels: 1" x 2-5/8", 30 labels per page.

Important Tracking Notes

Membership Barcodes

Students whose attendance needs to be connected to a specific membership.

Tracks membership-specific attendance, rank style activity, and sessions/class credits when applicable.

Contact Barcodes

Contacts whose attendance only needs to be recorded on the contact profile.

Does not attach attendance to a membership, track paid sessions/class credits, or apply attendance toward rank systems.

Before You Start

  • Confirm whether you need Membership Barcodes or Contact Barcodes before printing.

  • Use Avery 5160 label sheets for printing barcode labels.

  • Make sure the barcode scanner supports Code 39 / Code 3 of 9 barcodes.

Go to Print Barcodes

  1. From the Left Side Menu Bar, go to Attendance.

  2. Select Attendance Setup.

  3. Click Print Barcodes.

Select the Barcode Label Type

Under the Barcode Labels page, select the label and barcode type that matches how attendance should be tracked.

Membership Barcodes

Membership Barcodes are the recommended option when attendance needs to be connected to a student’s specific membership.

Use Membership Barcodes when you need to:

  • Track attendance under a specific membership.

  • Apply attendance toward a rank style.

  • Track sessions or class credits, including punch card-style memberships.

  • Print labels individually or in bulk.

  • Mark barcodes as printed after they are generated.

Because Membership Barcodes are tied directly to the student’s membership, they provide more accurate tracking for membership-based attendance activity.

Contact Barcodes

Contact Barcodes are tied only to the contact record. Use this option when you only need to record that the student attended, but do not need the attendance connected to a specific membership.

Contact Barcodes:

  • Add attendance to the contact record.

  • Do not attach attendance to a membership.

  • Do not track paid sessions or class credits.

  • Do not apply attendance toward rank systems.

If the student’s attendance needs to count toward a membership, rank, or session balance, use Membership Barcodes instead.

How to Print Attendance Barcodes

  1. Go to Attendance > Attendance Setup > Print Barcodes.

  2. Choose whether you need Membership Barcodes or Contact Barcodes.

  3. Select the students, contacts, or memberships that need barcode labels.

  4. Print the labels using Avery 5160 label sheets.

Using the Print Now Dashboard Notification

Spark may show a Print Now notification on the dashboard when membership barcodes are ready to print.

To print from the notification:

  1. Open the Print Now notification from the dashboard.

  2. Select the membership barcodes that need to be printed.

  3. Click Print Selected Barcodes.

This helps staff quickly print pending membership barcode labels without manually searching for each student.

Scanning or Manually Entering Barcodes

Staff can scan or manually enter barcodes to log attendance, which provides flexibility for check-in workflows.

Recommended Barcode Scanners

Spark uses Code 39 / Code 3 of 9 barcodes, which are commonly supported by barcode scanners. If a scanner does not scan correctly, it may need to be programmed to support Code 39 / Code 3 of 9 barcodes.

  • Contact Barcodes should only be used when attendance does not need to be tied to a specific membership.

  • Use Avery 5160 labels, which are 1" x 2-5/8" with 30 labels per page.

  • Spark uses Code 39 / Code 3 of 9 barcodes, so barcode scanners must support that format.
