What is the 'Active' Toggle in Memberships, and How Does It Work?

The 'Active' toggle is a key feature in SPARK MEMBERSHIP that allows users to manage the activation status of individual memberships. This toggle is located on the membership editing page and is labeled as 'Membership Active.' It serves as a simple switch to activate or deactivate a specific membership.

Functionality and Implications of the 'Active' Toggle

  1. Activating or Deactivating Memberships: When the 'Active' toggle is turned on, the membership is considered active and functional. Turning the toggle off deactivates the membership, effectively pausing its benefits and status. This action is reversible by toggling it back on.

  2. Impact on Secondary Profiles: If the 'Active' toggle is turned off for secondary profiles linked to a membership, those profiles are removed from the connected membership. However, this action does not automatically create separate memberships for the secondary profiles. To provide individual memberships, you must manually create them for each profile.

Understanding 'Active Contact' vs. 'Member'

The terms 'active contact' and 'member' are often used interchangeably to describe individuals who are currently active within the system. However, there is a subtle distinction:

  • Active Contact: This term is based on the contact type listed on the profile.

  • Member: This term is derived from membership data.

While both terms refer to active individuals, the context in which they are used may vary depending on whether the focus is on contact information or membership status.

Common Scenarios and Resolutions

  • Deactivating a Membership: Use the 'Active' toggle to deactivate a membership temporarily. This is useful for managing inactive members without deleting their profiles.

  • Managing Secondary Profiles: If you need to separate secondary profiles from a shared membership, turn off the 'Active' toggle for those profiles and create new memberships for them as needed.

By understanding the 'Active' toggle and its implications, you can effectively manage memberships and ensure accurate tracking of active members and contacts.
