🔥IGNITE | GA4 & GTM Setup Details

TABLE OF CONTENTS:

🔥 GOOGLE ANALYTICS 4 SETUP

Google is moving away from Google Analytics 3 to Google Analytics 4 (GA4)

Google Analytics 3 (Universal Analytics - number starts with UA-)

Google Analtyics 4 (number starts with G-)

From 1st July 2023 GA3 will no longer track data & you have to have GA4 setup.

The basic difference is that GA3 used one (1) tracking code. Now GA4 uses 3 different ones.

Ignite has set up your:

  • GA4 (Google Analytics 4)

  • GTM (Google Tag Manager)

NEXT STEP: We would like to share admin access to both of these with your google email account.

CLICK HERE to give Ignite your preferred google email account, so we can share admin access to your GA4 & GTM

[NOTE: this is your google account email - probably not the email from your domain]

🔥 UNDERSTANDING GA4 & GTM

NOTE: You can NO LONGER add UA tags to GTM - Google has stopped this

You will need to set up a new GTag from GA4 - See instructions in this tutorial.

If you already had UA tags installed GTM will still read it.

Know your Google Tag ID

The 3 NEW TAG IDs you will now use are:

  • Property ID

  • Stream ID

  • Measurement ID

Property ID:

The Property ID is used to locate your website database on Analytics.

How To Find Your Property ID

  1. Sign in to your Google Analytics account.

  2. Click Admin.

  3. At the top of the Property column, select your property.

NOTE: You are NOT Creating a Property - You want to be logged into the GA4 Account Spark Ignite has set up for you and shared with your google email account.

Stream ID:

Stream ID is used to identify which measurement ID it is holding. You can have multiple stream IDs per property to setup which events/views you want to see on Analytics

How to Find Your Stream ID

  1. Go to Admin > Data Streams.

  2. Select the data stream.

  3. Look at the Stream ID field.

Measurement ID:

You can use the Measurement ID to send data to a specific web data stream. This is also used to install on your website or GTM to send signals back to Analytics for reporting.

How To Find Your Measurement ID

🔥 STEPS TO TAKE WITH YOUR 3 IDs

Now that you have your 3 IDs

  • Property ID

  • Stream ID

  • Measurement ID

This is what you need to do with them:

1. Use the Property ID to search in Google Analytics to locate your reports/dashboard.

2. Add your Measurement ID to GTM (Google Tag Manager) - so the data from your Ignite website integrates with your Google Analytics 4 account.

NOTE: Ignite does this for you - but you can also check for yourself

To see your Measurement ID is on GTM:

  • Login to your Google Tag Manager Account

  • Go to tags and look for the Tag name: Google Analytics GA4 Configuration

  • Click on that name and check if the Measurement ID is the same with Google Analytics and that the trigger is set to All pages.

🔥 TESTING YOUR TRACKING IN GA

This works using Chrome Browser:

  • Install Chrome Extension: Google Tag Assistant Legacy

  • Go to your website

  • Click the chrome extension

  • Click enable

Now refresh your website so the tags trigger.

Click the Google Tag Assistant Chrome Extension again to see what tags etc are on your site.
